Join the Orpheus Day Volunteer Team

Thank you for your interest in being part of something truly special — Orpheus Day is set to be an unforgettable celebration, and we’d love for you to be right at the heart of it!

We have a fantastic mix of volunteer roles to suit all kinds of skills and personalities — whether you love being in the action, helping behind the scenes, or guiding others with a smile. Take a look below and find the perfect fit for you!

Puppet Operators

Get ready to bring the magic to life!

Join Russell Kirk and the amazing Mandinga Arts team to operate our larger-than-life puppets. Ever wanted to walk like a wild animal? Be part of something colourful and fun with your friends or family? This is your moment!

Please note: not suitable for those who are pregnant, have difficulty walking, or a weak back.

Orpheus Banner Holders

Be strong, proud, and at the heart of the action!

Support one of our stunning two-meter-high banners that “Orpheus and his Parade of Puppets” will collect along its route. You’ll carry it like a pro using a special satchel harness — and help lead the way.

Please note: not suitable for those who are pregnant, have difficulty walking, or a weak back.

Choir Managers

Help bring our choirs together!

You’ll be looking after our Orpheus Community Choir, youth choir, and guest choirs — checking people in, guiding them to their performance spaces, and keeping things running on schedule.

Perfect for those who enjoy organising, leading, and supporting performers!

Location Managers

Love a good plan and helping things run smoothly?

You’ll take charge of one key location and make sure the right people (and puppets!) are where they need to be at the right time.

This role is ideal for born organisers and natural leaders!

General Event Stewards

Be the friendly face that keeps everything flowing!

From giving directions and helping lost guests, to guiding the Puppet Parade around the Abbey Grounds lake, you’ll play a vital role in making sure the day runs safely and smoothly.

Bonus if you have first aid training — but anyone can apply!

Flyer Distributors

Help spread the word and build the buzz!

As we gear up for Orpheus Day, we need friendly faces to help distribute flyers in local towns, villages, and businesses — and on the day itself!

With your help, we can get everyone following Orpheus and singing along to our “Song for Orpheus,” making this a true community celebration.

Important Info

All roles will include a short training session before the event, so please let us know your availability when applying.
Most roles will be needed from:

  • 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, 23rd August (timings subject to final confirmation)

Please only apply if you’re happy to be available for that full morning.
